Meditation FAQs

Clear answers. No pressure.

If you’re curious about meditation and have questions, you’re not alone.

Here are direct answers to the most common ones.

Getting started

Do I need experience to meditate?

No.

Meditation at Gen Zen is taught from the ground up. No prior experience or “calm mind” required.

Is meditation religious or spiritual?

No.

The Deep Dive Method™ is a practical technique. It does not require adopting beliefs or worldviews. Some explore spiritual ideas later. Many do not.

What if my mind is very busy?

A busy mind is normal. Meditation does not require stopping thoughts. It works with the thinking mind — not against it. A busy mind is not a barrier.

About the practice

What kind of meditation do you teach?

The Deep Dive Method™ - an effortless automatic self-transcending meditation technique which allows the mind to transcend — moving beyond surface thinking into deep rest.

Is this mindfulness meditation?

No. Self-transcending meditation is different to mindfulness meditation.

Unlike mindfulness, which involves observing or focusing, this technique is designed to be effortless. Meditation doesn’t reward effort — it works best when the mind is allowed to settle naturally.

How is this different from mindfulness?

Mindfulness typically involves sustained attention and observation of the present moment. In the Deep Dive Method™ presence is not the task. Presence is the outcome. As the mind settles, awareness becomes clearer. Both approaches have value. They work differently.

What does “transcendence” mean?

Transcendence means going beyond. In meditation, it refers to the mind moving beyond surface activity into a silent, settled state. It is not something you force. It happens when conditions allow.

Daily practice & consistency

Do I need to meditate every day?

The intention is a daily practice. If a session is missed, you simply return. Familiarity matters more than perfection.

What if I miss sessions or lose momentum?

Missing sessions is part of learning. Returning is the practice. Support exists for this.

How long do I need to meditate?

Timing is structured and taught during the course. What matters most is: Regularity, Simplicity, Ease. Not optimisation.

Learning & support

What happens after I learn?

You are not left alone. All students receive ongoing support through the Gen Zen Inner Circle, including continued teacher access and long-term integration support.

Is there support if I get stuck later?

Yes.

Meditation Support Sessions are available months or years after learning. Your teacher remains available when needed.

What if meditation doesn’t work for me?

That’s why the Free Meditation Taster exists. It allows you to experience the method before committing to a course.
